Why Organic:

  • Reduces Toxic Load _______________________

There are strict guidelines for what herbicides/ pesticides are used in organic farming and processing. A major one is glyphosate, which is a known neurotoxin and is linked to cancer and other illnesses. Choosing organic is a great way to reduce exposure to this chemical and many others like it, helping to reduce your over all toxic load. We will never be able to eliminate 100% of all toxins in our life, but each swap we make adds up and makes a difference!

  • Non-GMO _______________________

Not only does the organic certification limit the chemicals sprayed onto our crops, it also ensures there are no GMO’s. GMO stands for genetically modified organism, meaning the organisms DNA or make up has been altered through genetic engineering, usually so the seed or crop can withstand the chemicals used in traditional farming. When choosing organic, you are supporting farmers who go the extra mile to keep the earth naturally amazing.

  • Earth Friendly _______________________

Non organic crops are sprayed with chemicals which kills everything except the plant itself, including the good organisms that the plants need to grow. Then, they are replaced with synthetic fertilizers which are also made up of toxic chemicals. Organic farming allows the soil to remain naturally nutrient rich and it also supports pollinators which are essential for keeping our world alive. Choosing organic is both good for you AND the planet!

FAQs

  • Yes! If you can make your own tea, you can make your own elderberry syrup.

  • You can keep your unopened kit in your pantry for about a month, after that you can put it in the freezer. After it is made, store it in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.

  • You control the ingredients, so there are no nasty preservatives, colors, or thickeners. Homemade is typically more cost effective as well!

  • The taste varies (even between store bought brands) because every elderberry syrup has its own ingredients list, but my kids love our homemade elderberry syrup! Home made is also typically thinner than store bought because it doesn't contain unnecessary additives. If you are not a fan of the sediment that is left behind from the spices, you can just strain it a few extra times.

  • You could start as early as 6 months, if you omit the honey. You could leave as is or substitute maple syrup if you would like. But always talk to your doctor or health care provider if you have any questions!

  • I would personally feel comfortable using it while pregnant or nursing, but there is insufficient clinical data to ensure its safety, so always talk to your doctor first if you have any concerns.
